WHITE PIGEON — White Pigeon Community Schools was closed Friday, April 26 due to a threat levied against the district.

According to a Facebook post from the school district, Thursday night the district announced that they were working with “local law enforcement” to investigate a threat against White Pigeon Junior/Senior High School. That led to the closure Friday of both the junior/senior high school and Central Elementary School.

In an update posted Friday, the school district said that they were made aware of what was an “online threat” directed toward the junior/senior high school building on Thursday night. They described the threat as “general in nature” that “did not target any specific individual or group,” and said they were still working with law enforcement to resolve the situation. No specifics as to what the threat entailed were released by the district, nor the exact source of the threat.

“White Pigeon Community Schools takes all threats seriously,” Friday’s post read. “The safety of our students and staff is always our number one priority. We understand that situations like these may cause unease, and we will update you as soon as we are able.”

The closure also led to cancellation of sporting events in the area that were scheduled for Friday, including high school sports, middle school sports, Little League and roller hockey. Sports activities are expected to resume as normal Saturday. The district did not specify when academic activities would resume in its post.

The White Pigeon Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the situation.
