Driver saved after vehicle submerged in Lee Township water

LEE TOWNSHIP – Allegan County Central Dispatch reported at 8:04 p.m. on Feb. 4, it got received a call that a vehicle crashed in Lee Township and that the vehicle was upside down and partially submerged in water.
A release from the sheriff’s office said the caller further advised that at least one person was trapped inside the vehicle. Allegan County deputies were first to arrive on scene and immediately entered the water and were able to force entry into the vehicle.
The Lee Township contract deputy was then able to enter the vehicle and remove the single trapped occupant of the vehicle. 
Deputies report After getting the driver up the steep embankment the driver was turned over to Lee Township Fire and Life EMS to be transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Deputies and Lee Township Fire then conducted additional searches to confirm there were no additional victims.
The Sheriff’s Office expressed its thanks to the citizen who also entered the water and provided assistance to the driver prior to deputies arriving.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lee Township Fire Department, Life EMS, and the Michigan State Police.
The incident remains under investigation.
