Election season has arrived – May 7th Proposals

The presidential primaries have passed, but the May 7, 2024, Proposal Election will soon arrive. The proposals will focus on Township Proposals and School Millage Renewals or Bond Issues. This spring election can be easily overlooked, but they are extremely important to the health of each community involved. Polls open at 7am and remain open until 8pm.
The following are shortened versions of the proposals. For full wording, go to https://www.allegancounty.org/departments/elections and click on “Ballot Proposals”.

PLAINWELL COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
Bond Proposal. Shall Plainwell Community Schools borrow the sum of not to exceed Forty-Two Million Four Hundred Five Thousand Dollars ($42,405,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds for the purpose of: erecting, furnishing, and equipping a new early childhood center and additions to school buildings; remodeling, furnishing and refurnishing, and equipping and re-equipping school buildings, including school security; and erecting, equipping, furnishing, preparing, developing, and improving playgrounds, athletic facilities, and sites?
The following is for informational purposes only: The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2024 is 1.75 mills ($1.75 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a -0- mill net increase over the prior year’s levy.
