Bulldog Stadium in Otsego and Streidl Field in Plainwell were busy on Monday, Aug. 12.
That’s because that was the first official day of football practice as allowed by the Michigan High School Athletic Association and players from both schools were going about the task of preparing for the season.
Per MHSAA regulations, all teams must have a minimum of 12 days of practice during a 16-day period prior to playing their first regular-season game.
Both Otsego and Plainwell are slated to kick off their seasons on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The Trojans will host its season opener, as they welcome Hamilton to town. Three of Plainwell’s next four games will be on the road, with a Friday, Sept. 13, affair against Edwardsburg the lone home contest during that stretch.
The Bulldogs, meanwhile, travel to Coopersville for its opener. The are home the following two weeks, as they host Hackett Catholic on Friday, Sept. 6, and take on visiting Vicksburg for the Wolverine Conference opener on Friday, Sept. 13.
This marks the second straight season that Otsego enters the season with a new head coach. Damien Ross took over for Scott McDougall after spending last season as an assistant coach with the Bulldogs. (Photos by Jason Wesseldyk)
