STURGIS — The Sturgis girls won a tight game against Niles last week, coming out on top 49-42.
“It was a great win for us on senior night,” stated coach Andy Phillips. “We persevered in the third and fourth quarters, and we got some key offensive rebounds and defensive stops late in the game that helped us get the win.”
Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Maddy Webb and Sydney Bir, who had 12 points each. Cora Phillips scored 10, followed by Kinder Smith with six points. Addison Eicher and Angela Cary finished with four and three points, respectively. The victory gave Sturgis their fifth consecutive win.
The Lady Trojans picked up their sixth win Tuesday, defeating host Edwardsburg 45-40.
Madison Webb led the way with 15 points, followed by Cora Phillips with 12. Angela Cary chipped in with 10 points, while Kinder Smith finished with eight.
“It was a great defensive effort tonight,” coach Andy Phillips stated. “We contested shots and got on the offensive glass.” He also added that “It was a great program win for us to build upon before we travel to Vicksburg on Friday.”
The victory gives Sturgis an overall record of 11-6, 5-5 in the Wolverine Conference.
Centreville notches win over Lawrence
CENTREVILLE — Centreville’s girls’ basketball team earned a 48-23 win Tuesday night over Lawrence, moving their record to 11-3 and 11-0 in the Southwest 10.
Three Bulldogs scored in double digits on the evening. Leah Roberts and Mara Webb led the way with 11 points each, with Webb adding seven rebounds and two assits, while Ellie Reed had 10 points and four steals. Mary Stears had five points and seven rebounds, Drew Alexander had four points, three steals and two assists, Emerson Hackett had three points, and Leah Reed and Berkley Shingledecker had two points each.
“Our girls played with great effort and had great attitudes all game tonight. They did a wonderful job supporting each other on and off the court and it showed as 65 percent of our baskets were assisted tonight,” head coach Jill Peterson said. “This group does a great job pushing each other in practice and coming together on game day for the good of the team; I’m proud of all 10 of them.”
Colon swept on week by Climax-Scotts, Pittsford
COLON — Host Climax-Scotts scored in double-figures in every quarter against Colon last week, going on to defeat the Lady Magi 52-35.
“We struggled with their press a bit in the first half,” Magi coach Beth Preston said. “We came out of halftime and started moving the ball better and made a little run to cut it to four points. I thought we showed a lot of fight tonight.”
Raegan Thaxton scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Magi effort, followed by Allison Vinson, who tossed in 11 points. Savannah Myers finished with seven, Lily Preston added three points, and Amaya Johnson scored two.
Both Colon and host Pittsford had trouble putting the ball through the hoop as the scoreboard showed, but in the end it was the Lady Wildcats picking up the win on Tuesday, 35-28. With the victory, Pittsford remains undefeated at 16-0.
The Lady Magi led 11-10 at the half, but only managed five points in the third period, while the winners scored 11. Allison Vinson was the leading scorer for Colon with 13 points, followed by Raegan Thaxton, who finished with nine. Lily Preston tossed in four points, while Savannah Myers scored two.
Schoolcraft splits against Parchment, Buchanan
SCHOOLCRAFT — Schoolcraft went 1-1 this past week, defeating Parchment Friday night 35-24, but losing Tuesday to Buchanan 51-35.
Against Parchment, Sydney Drenth led the way with 10 points, while Lexi Blodgett and Carley Couk had eight points each. Blodgett added three rebounds and four assists, while Couk had 17 rebounds and three steals. Addison Blodgett added seven points, and Val DeVries ended the scoring with two points.
Against Buchanan, Drenth had 15 points and three steals to lead the way, and Couk dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. DeVries added six points and 10 rebounds, and Lexi Blodgett chipped in two to end the Eagles’ scoring.
White Pigeon continues dominance in SW10
WHITE PIGEON — The White Pigeon girls held visiting Lawrence to six points in the first half on their way to an easy 54-23 win last week.
The Lady Tigers scored single-digit points in three of the four quarters, as the Lady Chiefs defense came up big in the win.
Sydney McClure paced the White Pigeon offense, scoring 14 points. She also grabbed nine missed shots and had four steals. Kenleee Schrader added 10 points, four rebounds and two steals in the win, while Jamielynn Delarye finished with seven points, five rebounds, five steals and three assists. Amyia Wright contributed five points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Also for the winners, Rachel Byler scored four, yanked down nine rebounds and had a block, while Kadence Smith pulled down five rebounds and finished with two points. Teammate Jennafaye Zehr rounded out the Lady Chiefs effort with a pair of rebounds, steals and assists.
The White Pigeon girls are now 12-1 in the Southwest 10, thanks to a 46-29 win over Hartford Tuesday night. The Lady Chiefs led 13-8 after the first eight minutes, and moved out to a 27-15 lead at the break.
Sydney McClure paced the White Pigeon offense, scoring 15 points. She also added seven rebounds and two steals in the victory. Sadie McDaniel and Jamielynn Delarye both finished with eight points, with McDaniel grabbing six rebounds as well as a steal. Delarye also added an impressive total of 12 steals, to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Amyia Wright notched seven points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Rounding out the winning effort for White Pigeon, Jennafaye Zehr had five points and a steal, Shelby McDaniel scored three, finished with a rebound, and picked off a steal.
The victories improve the Chiefs overall record to 13-4.
