GOBLES — The Gobles Tigers put together a complete performance on both sides of the ball Friday night, rolling to a 44-0 victory over Marcellus, coach Greg Eichler said.
The Tigers racked up 396 total yards of offense while holding Marcellus to just 157. The ground game led the charge with 268 rushing yards and four touchdowns, highlighted by Nathan Ray’s 85 yards and two scores. Devin Doorlag added 67 yards and a touchdown on just six carries, while Aiden Beam broke free for a 53-yard score.
Through the air, quarterback Steven Juarez was sharp, completing 5 of 6 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Ray was a big target, hauling in a 73-yard touchdown reception, and Beam added a 34-yard TD catch.
Defensively, Gobles swarmed Marcellus all night, finishing with 10 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Ray anchored the defense with 13 total tackles, including 6 TFLs, while Hunter Piper contributed 10 tackles and an interception. The Tigers also shut down Marcellus on key downs, allowing just 2 of 10 conversions on third down and stopping all six fourth-down attempts.
Special teams chipped in as well, with Beam breaking tackles on punt returns and Vinnie Romano recovering an onside kick to keep momentum firmly on Gobles’ side.
“Overall, it was a complete team effort,” Eichler said. “Many players contributed to the victory and it was a great display of teamwork. With the victory, Gobles improves their record to 3-0 and shows they can play with both physical defense and explosive plays on offense.”
