A city of LaFayette council seat has become open after a surprising announcement from city councilman Shannon Hunter announcing his decision to step down from city council last Friday.
It was in an email sent to the mayor, council and others that Shannon Hunter announced his decision to resign from his seat on the city council.
“I have resigned from the city council effective the end of May and this June 6th in a special called meeting, the Mayor and council will decide how to fill the vacancy,” said Hunter.
Hunter expressed frustration in his position and stated that he began with high hopes of improvement for the city, but he stated that he has lost that enthusiasm. Hunter, “ I hope they select someone who can accomplish something more for the city.”
There will be a special called meeting on Tuesday June 6th at noon to discuss the open council seat.
