Illinois man drowns in Paw Paw River, Lawrence

LAWRENCE – A 48-year-old Illinois man drowned Thursday afternoon, April 3, in the Paw Paw River, in the Village of Lawrence, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said Van Buren County Dispatch received a call shortly before 1 p.m. in reference to a male who had gone underneath the water of the Paw Paw River in the Village of Lawrence. Upon arriving on scene, responders requested that the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team respond to assist. Members of the dive team arrived on scene and began to conduct a search for the victim, who was identified as a 48-year-old male from Illinois.
After approximately an hour of searching, a member of the dive team was able to locate the victim in the Paw Paw River. He was pronounced deceased on scene. The scene and investigation were turned over to the Lawrence Police Department for further investigation.
