A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper was injured in a crash in snowy conditions on Interstate 94 in Van Buren County Thursday afternoon, Jan. 6, according to Michigan State Police.
Police said a small pickup truck lost control and hit a parked patrol vehicle in the median of I-94 west at Mile Marker 47 around 2:15 p.m.
Michigan State Police Spl/Lt. DuWayne Robinson said the pickup truck driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Robinson said the trooper inside suffered a minor head injury and was taken to the hospital. “It could have been a lot worse,” said Robinson.
Robinson said another state police vehicle was struck about a mile away within a few hours of the first crash.
“People are moving way too fast for these conditions. I-94 is an ice rink,” said Robinson.
Van Buren County Central Dispatch reported there were 104 snow-related slide-offs and crashes from Wednesday, Jan. 5, to Thursday at 3 p.m, with approximately 90 percent of the incidents occurring on I-94.
