PAW PAW – Memorial bricks located near the Village of Paw Paw Amphitheater Park, although they have disappeared from the current location, have been placed on pallets and are being safely stored until a more suitable and respectful permanent solution location can be determined.
The Paw Paw Downtown Development Authority said that section of sidewalk became a safety concern, with multiple trip-and-fall incidents reported.
For many years, the Village of Paw Paw Department of Public Services worked to stabilize and repair the brick area, making several attempts to preserve it in place. Unfortunately, due to constant foot traffic, weather exposure, and winter snow/ice removal, the condition continued to deteriorate. In some cases, the bricks had become so worn that engravings were no longer readable.
The DDA said that with the number of projects currently underway this year, the memorial brick relocation has not been forgotten.
