No one injured in roof fire at American Axle in Three Rivers

THREE RIVERS — Some operations at American Axle and Manufacturing in Three Rivers were briefly shut down Thursday after a fire broke out on the roof of the building.

According to the Three Rivers Fire Department, the fire was reported at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, with multiple departments responding. Upon arrival, firefighters found a part of the roof on fire and were able to extinguish it after access was granted. Those working in the building were evacuated during the fire.

No injuries were reported, according to firefighters, and a small area of the plant had to be closed down due to water runoff into the building from firefighting operations. Fire Chief Paul Schoon said American Axle had a roofing company on scene by the time firefighters left the scene just before 6 a.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is under investigation. The TRFD were assisted on scene by the Fabius-Park Fire Department and Centreville Fire Department.
