Obituary: Barbara Jean Tyo

Barbara Jean Tyo May 4, 1949-May 4,2024
Barb passed away in the early morning of May 4, celebrating 75 years of life. She passed away at the Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was in Hospice care the last week of her life after a brief illness. During her stay, she received excellent care and compassion from everyone at Rose Arbor.
Barb was born and raised in Allegan. After graduating from Allegan High School in 1968, she attended Davenport business college. Upon getting her degree, she started working at Allegan General Hospital. She was employed there for over 30 years where she worked as an ER clerk for much of her time.
Barb always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking pies and cookies for her family and friends. She loved spending time there especially teaching her nieces and great-nieces the art of cooking with love. Anytime you went to her home, there was always some type of baked good to be found and enjoyed on the counter.
Barb had a love for all animals but especially dogs and cats. Her recent favorite puppies being Melina and Bella. She will truly be loved and missed by all her family and friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ruth; sister, Judy; nephews Troy and Tony and a niece Lisa. She is survived by her brother Ron (Jane) Tyo, sisters Ruth and Linda Tyo and nieces Brenda (Ken) Breon, Penny (Doug) Barnes and Sheri (Sam) Hiscock. Also surviving are many great-nieces and great-nephews. After breaking her hip 16 years ago, she had a home health nurse that cared for her and also became a close friend, Amy Drainer.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place at a later date.
