Obituary: Dr. Frank Joseph “Joe” Loomis

Dr. Frank Joseph “Joe” Loomis, 100, of Whispering Pines, died peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Born in Luckey, Ohio, December 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Chauncey Burr and Esther Emma Joseph Loomis. During WWII, he was in medical school at University of Michigan and simultaneously served in the U.S. Navy. Upon graduation, he was stationed in San Diego, California, for active duty and later loaned to the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Carson, Colorado, and in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After his release from active duty, he opened a family practice in Paw Paw, Michigan for 20 years. In 1974, drawn by his love of golf and warm weather, Joe relocated south and joined the team at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where he worked as an emergency room physician until his retirement.
Joe was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Priscilla Loomis, and his son, Stephen, who passed away tragically on January 21, 2025, following a brief illness. He is survived by daughters, Dana Corcoran (Patrick) and Lacy Pessagno (Larry). He is also survived by grandchildren: Brian, Matt, Josh, Lambert, Ashley, Lacy, Lindsey, Zach, and Andy – and great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Dylan, Lacy Jean, Aaron, Kennady, Samantha, Jaxyn, Cameron, Kellan, Nick, Allaria, Giavanna, Atlas, and Roman – and great-great grandson, Mateo. Joe’s sister Mary and brothers Ben and Bill predeceased him. He has left a legacy of faith for his family.
A joint memorial will be held for Joe and Steve in April.
