Gerald Franklin Nye 85 yrs of age passed through the gates of heaven on Feb 11, 2025 in Traverse city at Munson Medical Center.
Born in Douglas community hospital and raised on the farm in Ganges the son of Roy A. Nye and Erma C. (Hathaway) Nye.
He graduated from Fennville High School and went on to Western Michigan University to pursue his passion for music. After college he taught music at Northport Schools. He continued his musical passion by playing in the Northport Community band and the community band at his winter home in Fort Meade, Florida.
When his teaching career ended he pursued another passion of his: collecting antiques. He owned and operated “The 5th Line Shop” in Northport. He was particularly fond of Fiesta Ware, Candle Wick glassware, and old clocks. When he wasn’t collecting antiques he owned and operated the Willowbrook restaurant with friend and partner Charles Brown until Charlie’s passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Erma Nye, his older brother Donald A. Nye, and his loyal friend and partner Charles Brown. He is survived by sister in law Marilyn J Nye, nephews Kerry (Barbra) Nye, Steven (Pam) Nye, Roger (Caroline) Nye, niece Donna Nye, great nieces and nephews , and great grand nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and the family will hold a private service at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the Northport Heritage Association or the Trinity Church of the United Church of Christ in Northport, Michigan.
