Obituary: Jeff Greenwood, 59

Jeff Greenwood, age 59, passed away July 15, 2024, in Basin, Wyo., where he had moved last fall.

Jeff was born in Holland, Michigan Nov. 21, 1964, to Terry (Daughn) Greenwood and Carol (Bob) Damson. Terry, Daughn, and Carol preceded him in death.

In the early years, Jeff’s second home was the Holland Community Theatre where his grandparents, Barb and Bob Greenwood, were founding members. In addition to performing in shows, Jeff maintained an appreciation for music and the arts throughout his life and had a special place in his heart for the HCT crew.

Largely growing up in Holland, he took a two-year detour to Hopkinsville, Ky., returning to Michigan to attend and graduate from Holland High in 1982.

Jeff’s road to earn a BA in economics from the University of Michigan had a few stops before landing him in Ann Arbor; most notably a year at the University of Wisconsin. No road trip out west was complete without stopping at the union in Madison. Best student union anywhere, according to Jeff!

After graduating from U-M in 1988, he worked at a variety of manufacturing companies in West Michigan including Koning Machine, Prince Corp., Donnelly, Shoreline Container, Coastal Container and KAM Plastics. “Woody,” “Green” or “Greenie” as some called him, made lifelong friends at all the places he worked.

In 2002, Jeff married Lisa Line. Soon after Sid and Grace joined them. Jeff loved his kids without measure. They made a home in Douglas, where Jeff renovated his third “fixer-upper” and was a member of the zoning board of appeals for many years. Jeff enjoyed being a part of the Douglas-Saugatuck Community.

In addition to Sid, Grace and Lisa, he is survived by his sister Laura (George) Schout of Allegan, brother David (Karin) Greenwood of Hamilton, Bob Damson of Buffalo, Wyo., and many cousins, nephews and friends.

In Jeff’s name you are welcome to donate to www.project-realize.com, where your contribution will directly support local mental health services for those in need.

There will be a celebration of his life Sunday, Oct. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Capizzo Studio, 3279 Blue Star Hwy, Saugatuck. Light refreshments will be served.
