Joan Arlene Jerome (Johnson), a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 88 in Zeeland, Michigan. Born on July 9, 1936, in Douglas, Michigan, Joan’s life was a tapestry woven with devotion to her family, a steadfast work ethic, and a heart full of joy and service.
Joan was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Polly (Morse) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Harvey Jerome. She is survived by her adoring children, Denise (Tom) Doucette, Dennis (Chris) Johnson, Darlene (John) Chabot, and Andrew (Tonya) Johnson. Her legacy continues through her 18 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness. Also, her 2 nephews and niece.
Joan’s siblings, Mary Ann (Ralph) McMahon and James Johnson, will fondly remember her as a sister who was always there with a listening ear and an open heart. She was a caretaker in the truest sense, not only for her brother James but for all those she held dear.
Professionally, Joan dedicated many years to the medical industry, where she worked diligently in billing. Her colleagues knew her as a woman of integrity and kindness, someone who brought warmth and efficiency to every task she undertook.
Joan’s interests and activities were a reflection of her love for life and her commitment to her community. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Fennville, Michigan, where her faith was nurtured and shared. Her Tuesdays were reserved for playing cards with friends, a time filled with laughter and camaraderie that she looked forward to each week.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Joan, never missed an opportunity to be involved in her grandchildren’s school activities. She traveled when she could, delighting in new experiences and the joy of discovery. At home, she found serenity in watching the hummingbird’s flit to and fro at her feeder, a simple pleasure that spoke to her appreciation of nature’s wonders.
