Leona Mae Nevenzel, 95, of Allegan, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Holland Hospital in Holland, Michigan. Born February 6, 1927 in Allegan, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Green) Beck, graduate of Allegan High School Class of 1944, and the wife of the late Lloyd Nevenzel for 55 years. Leona, known as Onie to most people, was a long-time member of the Dunningville Reformed Church. She was a homemaker, gardener, and 4-H Leader Seamstress. Onie was a wonderful woman who loved to give of her time and talents. She also enjoyed playing board games and cards, as well as being a big sports fan of football, basketball, baseball and golf. One could always plan on her attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, dance recitals, drum corp shows, scout ceremonies, and graduations, to cheer them on and encourage. Onie loved giving gifts and never forgot her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren’s birthdays or Christmas gifts. Daily she would ask about each of them and wanted to know what was going on in their lives – keeping up with the latest life events of everyone. She was blessed to be loved by all of her family and extended family and share so many wonderful moments in their lives.
Surviving is her daughter, Beverly (Thomas) Leiven of Wisconsin; her son, Bernard Bud (Linda) Nevenzel and daughter, Shirley Nevenzel of Allegan; sister, Gail (Stan) Emelander; brother, Robert (Judy) Beck; sister-in-law, Miriam Abraham; grandchildren, Nikkia and Kevin, Nicole and Scott, Alicia and Jason, Michael and Julie, Christopher and Laura, Monica, Dustin and Lesley, and Joshua; great-grandchildren, Travis, Chelsea, Abigail, Jacob, Ethan, Kylie, Megan, Mason and Anders; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard, Daniel, and James; and her sisters, Alice, Lucille, Viola and Lila.
Visitation will take place at the Dunningville Reformed Church on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, luncheon to follow. Onie will be laid to rest next to her husband in Brookside Cemetery, Heath Township. Memorial donations may be made in Leona’s name to the Dunningville Reformed Church, 2559 Lincoln Road, Allegan, MI 49010.
