Obituary: Mary Helen Cassidy

Mary Helen Cassidy, age 77, of Clare, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at My Michigan Health in Clare. She was born the daughter of Roy and Marie (Fitzpatrick) Smith on Feb. 24, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant. Mary was a homemaker who grew up in Clare and never left. She married Harold “Hoppy” Cassidy on Dec. 18, 1976, and he preceded her in death on Apr. 11, 2006. Mary was a member of the Our Lady of Hope-St. Cecilia Parish and had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary in the Pettit-Kapplinger Post in Clare.
Mary is survived by her stepchildren, John Cassidy of Clare, Dan and Marsha Cassidy of Coleman, Claude and Linda Cassidy of Clare, Linda and Tim Dicken of Beaverton, and Rebecca and Arthur Pierce of DeLand, Fla. Also surviving are her sisters, Shirley Conn of Clare and Sandy and Bill Robbins of St. Johns, Michigan, a sister-in-law, Alaine Benic, two aunts, Teressa Slocum and Barbara Root, several grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, stepfather Dick Smith, her sister Joyce Webb, and brother, LeRoy Smith.
In keeping with her wishes, a small family graveside ceremony will be held when she is laid to rest with her family members in the St. Cecilia Cemetery in Clare. Arrangements were made by the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Homes. Her family is very appreciative of the Loving Care that Mary received at My Michigan Health in Clare and at Medilodge of Clare.
