Obituary: Michael Neil Pifer

Michael Neil Pifer, of O’Fallon, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the age of 69. Beloved husband of Rita Pifer; cherished son of Neil E. Pifer and the late Lela M. Pifer. Devoted father of Shannon (Ethan) Shown, Sheena Price, and Justin (Anna) Pifer; loving grandfather of Ava, Luke, Logan, Annabelle, and Emerson; dear brother of Cheryl (Larry) Andrews and Sue (Mike) Mahaffie.
Mike and Rita shared 39 years of marriage and created a beautiful family together. He was devoted to his faith as a member of First Baptist Church of Harvester, embodying the qualities of a true Man of God. A passion for music led him to sing joyfully in the church choir. Beyond his spiritual pursuits, Mike embraced athleticism, finding solace and strength in running. His dedication led him to participate in the rigorous Iron Man Competition in 2010 alongside his regular pursuit of marathons, conquering an impressive 25 marathons.
Captain Pifer embarked on a remarkable journey in aviation, he was Chief Pilot with Atlantic Aero before navigating through roles at Ozark Airlines and TWA, before retiring from American Airlines in 2011. Known for his resilience, he was a jovial presence, always ready with a joke. His compassionate nature and servant’s heart endeared him to all who crossed his path. Mike’s unique blend of courage and kindness made him a cherished figure, a fearless leader who anchored his family with unwavering love. Michael was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A committal service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Marion, Michigan.
