Obituary: Sharon Ann Gillespie

Funeral services for Sharon Ann Gillespie, age 65, of Rock Mills will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 3:00 PM at the Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Jeff Sheffield and Bro. Greg Norred officiating and special speakers Chad Kendrick and Harold Whitaker. Burial will follow at Randolph Memory Gardens with Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Mrs. Gillespie will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to services beginning on Wednesday.
Mrs. Gillespie passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Survivors include her husband, Gary Gillespie of Rock Mills; two daughters, Keishia Norred (Greg) and Wendy Pike (Stevan), both of Rock Mills; five grandchildren, Emery Norred, Emelia Norred, Landon Norred, Zebulon Pike, and Callen Pike; one sister, Susan Smith (Darrell) of Wedowee; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ben Smith, Wayne Boggs, Jason Gillespie, Joshua Yerta, Frank Foster, Jr., and Dwayne Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be John Glass, Harold Whitaker, Earl Lee Gillespie, Keith Yerta, and Steve Pike. A Rock Mills native, Mrs. Gillespie was born on September 9, 1956, the daughter of Doris and Peggy Turner Wilford. She was a member of the Rock Mills Church of the Nazarene, served on the Rock Mills Cemetery Committee, and worked as a paraprofessional for over 35 years at Rock Mills Junior High School where she loved and nurtured countless students over the years. Mrs. Gillespie loved her family and her grandkids were her pride and joy. She had a servant’s heart and loved to cook for others. She loved flowers and gardening, traveling, especially to the beach, and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Mrs. Gillespie was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Sanford & Bertha Turner; and a nephew, Michael Smith.
