MARION – The Osceola County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the Osceola County Sheriff Department to hire four school resource officers and to place them in the schools as soon as positions are filled.
County commissioner Roger Elkins, of Evart, said there would be one resource officers for each of the county’s four districts in Marion, Pine River, Evart and Reed City.
“The sheriff did inform us they have two or three people that are currently with the department that would probably move into that school resource officer position and they will do an interview process with the school to make sure it’s a good fit for them.”
The officers would cover all the school buildings within their particular district, Elkins said.
The school resource officer would be there for security and other reasons.
Commissioners voted to approve the Sheriff to apply for a snowmobile patrol grant.
Commissioners also voted to approve the bid from Kram Construction for the renovation projects at the courthouse for total cost of $140,820.38 including engineered prints.
The Board Chair was given authority to sign the Discharge of Mortgage for James Kinney.
The board also voted to approve transferring $2,979.82 to District Court to cover overages. The Treasurer will determine where to transfer the funds from.
