VICKSBURG—The Otsego baseball team found itself on the short end of a pitcher’ duel on Thursday, May 6.
Otsego dropped the game to Vicksburg 2-1 in a contest that featured just seven combined hits between the two teams.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
Kyle Lingbeek started for Otsego and limited Vicksburg to two runs on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts in six innings.
The Vicksburg tandem of Cohen Carpenter and Caden Bowling was just a little bit better, however.
Carpenter started and went five innings, allowing one run on two hits with five walks and nine strikeouts. Bowling pitched the final two frames, allowing only a walk and striking out one.
Otsego took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Jayden Fuelling drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Colby Ward.
The scored stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Vicksburg scored twice—once on a Jim Cutshaw triple and once on an error—to take the lead.
Ward and Callum Wesseldyk had the two hits for Otsego.
