Otsego, Plainwell set for big weekend of high school musicals

For musical theater fans, the Otsego-Plainwell area will be the place to be next week.
Both Otsego High School and Plainwell High School will take the stage with their annual spring musicals, offering audiences two distinct productions over the same four-day stretch.
Otsego High School will present the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress,” while Plainwell High School will perform “Hadestown: Teen Edition.”
Otsego’s production of Once Upon a Mattress will run Thursday, March 26 through Saturday, March 28 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 29, at the Otsego High School Performing Arts Center, 550 Washington St.
The show is a lighthearted twist on the classic “Princess and the Pea” fairy tale and features Grifin Jacobs as Prince Dauntless and Stella Houseman as Queen Aggravain.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students and can be purchased online at otsegops.tix.com.
Plainwell High School’s production of Hadestown: Teen Edition will be staged at the Plainwell Performing Arts Center, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28, along with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, March 29.
The musical, inspired by Greek mythology, blends contemporary music styles with the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.
Tickets for Plainwell’s performances are available online at plainwellschools.ludus.com, with pricing listed as $10 for students, $12 for seniors and $15 for adults.
With both schools presenting shows on the same weekend, audiences will have multiple opportunities to support local student performers and enjoy a variety of musical theater offerings.
