On Memorial Day night, the community of Lawrence held a Memorial Day night luminary service that featured over 1,200 luminaries, with the name of a Lawrence service man or woman on each one, were lit at the conclusion of the service. What began 20 years ago by Charles Moden, Lawrence American Legion Hess-Eastman Post 174 Commander, and a host of volunteers, with over 750 luminaries, has now grown to over 1,200. Earlier in the day, the Village of Lawrence held a Memorial Day parade and service at the Lawrence Village Park, paying tribute to 22 servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice.
