With a new date and a wide variety of artists and activities, the Plainwell Art Hop is set to return next week with something for just about everyone.
The annual event will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, with organizers moving it from its traditional early March slot to mid-April in hopes of more favorable weather.
This year’s Art Hop will feature 18 visual and performance artists spread across 13 locations throughout downtown Plainwell, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to explore different forms of creativity in a walkable setting.
Participants can begin their evening at the Art Hop Hub, located at 111 N. Main St. at the downtown traffic light, where maps and event information will be available. The Plainwell Arts Council will also host an art auction at the Hub.
A wide range of visual art will be on display, including watercolor, acrylic and mixed media painting, along with jewelry, glasswork, metal pieces and other three-dimensional art.
In addition to the visual displays, several performance-based acts will be featured throughout the evening. Collywobbles Theater Co. will present short radio plays complete with live sound effects, while a magician and multiple live music stops will add to the atmosphere.
The Ransom District Library will also highlight artwork created by Plainwell elementary, middle school and high school students.
Visitors can take advantage of Plainwell’s downtown social district during the event, with the ability to carry beverages within the designated area from participating establishments. Several local restaurants will also be offering food and drink specials throughout the evening.
The Art Hop is sponsored by the Plainwell Arts Council, the City of Plainwell, Ransom District Library and the Friends of the Library.
Organizers encourage community members to come out and enjoy an evening celebrating art, creativity and connection.
