Plainwell celebrates graduation for Class of ‘22

The Plainwell High School Class of 2022 went from the ranks of active students to that of alumni as the school held is commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 26.
Despite a threat of rain, the weather cooperated and the ceremony took place at Streidl Field rather than being move into the gymnasium.
“I’m definitely glad that the weather held off and was good,” Plainwell High School principal Jeremy Wright said. “It was scary for a good part of the day, but it all worked out.”
Like the two graduating classes before them, the Class of 2022 endured the effects of the COVID pandemic and the changes it forced to their high school years.
Through all the trials and tribulations, however, the students in this class kept pushing forward, according to Wright.
“This group has been great,” he said. “They have been a fun class to get to know and have really pulled it together after the craziness of COVID.”
As for the commencement ceremony itself, Wright couldn’t have been happier with the way it went.
“This year’s commencement was excellent,” he said. “I personally enjoyed all of our speakers and seeing our graduates off. It was a little extra special for me as my daughter was part of the graduating class.”
And although the Class of 2022 is officially done with its time at Plainwell High School, Wright hopes they always remember the lessons they learned there.
“I would tell the students to be kind to each other and always seek their passion,” he said. “And don’t be afraid to take risks.”
The day prior to graduation, PHS honored the senior class with the Senior Drive in the high school parking lot.
“The senior drive was a fun event,” Wright said.
The Senior Drive began in 2019 as a way to recognize the members of that graduating class who missed out on many of the end-of-the-year events due to COVID.
“We did it that first year and everybody liked it, so we decided to keep it as a way of celebrating all of the seniors each year,” Wright said.
The slideshow followed the Senior Drive.
“It is a nice family event capping off the year,” Wright said.
