CLARE – Ivy Russell had a solid year for a Clare soccer team which finished as runners-up this season in the Divison 3 district tournament.
“The key is communication and talking to each other,” Russell said, adding after the team recorded three goals in a district win over Reed City, the key was getting open, staying open, looking for people and keeping my strength up.”
Clare struggled through various health issues.
“I’ve had a few minor injuries but I’ve gotte back from them,” she said.
Russell scored 15 goals coming into the district.
“The key was communication, talking,” she said.
It was Russell’s first season of high school soccer.
“It definitely was different going from middle school,” Russell said. “I would say I warmed up to it quickly. I’m trying my best at everything.”
The team “has been playing great,” Russell said. “Communication and talking has been the key.”
Along with soccer, Russell skis, plays softball and skateboards. Skiing is her favorite. But when it comes to soccer. “I like running around the feeling and the adrenaline, all of that.”
Clare finished the season at 10–8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the North Michigan soccer league.
