A fire at a South Haven business tonight (Wednesday) was one of eight alarms answered by South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) in a two-hour period. All were related to high winds toppling trees. Other storm-related reports continued to be called-in through the night. (as of 8:15 p.m.)
The most serious was a fire at Haven Heating and Cooling on M-140, South Haven Township. SHAES responded to a 6:15 p.m. report of a transformer explosion which was immediately changed to a structure fire. Firefighters arrived to find a tree on top of the commercial building and heavy smoke pouring out the eaves. The fire was confined to the attic of the building.
Mutual aid brought Covert Township Fire Department to the scene. South Haven Police Department and South Haven Board of Public Works also responded.
The business was not open at the time. No injuries were reported to firefighters.
