Following up on several queries from a Review reader, the newspaper has learned that the Clare County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating “multiple breaking and entering crimes in Sheridan Township,” according to a press release received earlier this week from Clare County Sheriff Department’s media contact Lt. Aaron Miller.
The press release said, “The breaking and entering occurred at multiple business locations owned and operated by Amish individuals.”
Miller reported that the Sheriff’s Office has investigated four (4) reported incidents of those breaking and entering reports and larcenies since last summer.
The first occurred at the Old Colonville Furniture and Propane store on August 15 or 16, 2024.
The second reported incident was at the Tobacco River Footwear and Apparel and happened last month in December between the 22nd and the 24th.
The third reported incident was at the 5 Star Processing business at December 27.
The final report was on January 4th, once again at the Tobacco River Footwear and Apparel.
Miller reported, “The suspects are stealing cash, and other items from the stores. The Sheriff’s Office is currently following up on leads and has evidence pending an analysis at the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. It is believed that the suspect(s) are preying on the businesses during the day and committing the crimes during the night.”
The investigation is ongoing.
He added, “The Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information about the person(s) responsible. Please contact the Sheriff’s office Detective Bureau at 9890539-7166 extension 4312 with any information related to these incidents.”
Criminals think they are easy targets. I hope they remove cash off site at night
