The City of South Haven has a new City Clerk after the City Council approved the hiring of Brittany Abrams at the May 18, 2026, regular meeting.
The City has been operating without a City Clerk since April 30, 2026, when Megan Kiker resigned after serving for six years as a City employee.
Brittany Abrams has 12 years’ experience working in a municipal government and she currently serves as the Parks and Recreation Office Manager at the Village of Romeoville in Illinois. Prior to that, she served as the Administrative Clerk at Lake County Forest Preserves, and as the Economic Development Coordinator and Office Administrator at the Village of Justice.
According to a press release sent out by Kate Hosier, the South Haven City Manager, and HR Director Kim Wise, Abrams in her various roles has served as staff liaison to Boards, and has prepared resolutions, agendas, agenda packets, and meeting minutes. She has also assisted with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, budget preparations, payroll processing, Human Resources record keeping, and organizing various community events.
Abrams holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration with a minor in Art and Outdoor Leadership from Western Illinois University. Although she currently works in Illinois, Ms. Abrams owns a home in southwest Michigan, and she is excited about working and living in southwest Michigan full-time.
The South Haven City Council approved the hiring of Abrams as a Consent Agenda item without any discussion. With the approval of the City Council, Abrams will begin her employment as City Clerk on Monday, June 8, 2026.
