FARWELL — It was a memorable sports season for Clayton Stover and his Farwell sports teams.
Especially for Stover, it was a fun football season with the Farwell Eagles displaying immense improvement.
Stover was a junior with his first year on varsity.
He was very successful in his transition from junior varsity to varsity.
“It’s a big difference in how big they are,” Stover said late in the season. “It’s how strong and physical everybody is. I think I’ve done pretty well. They’re a lot bigger than me. I’m pretty small.”
Stover was starting center for Farwell. He’s been a center since last season.
“We were here during the summer just working plays,” he said.”Our center didn’t show up.”
So in this case, someone had to do it and Stover happily volunteered. He’s been there since.
Stover said he had to get used to “probably snapping the ball and getting a block.” After he snaps the ball, Stover usually hits a player from the other side.
Farwell’s formation called for snapping the ball from under center and also occasionally with the shotgun. The exchanges went smoothy all season.
“In a game, I don’t think I’ve had a single bad snap,” Stover said. “The key is being able to get the ball in his hands.”
Stover felt the team’s best defensive games was against Pinconning in a 20-7 win.
“The key is working here every day and pushing us to our max,” he said.
Stover also plays baseball but said football is his best sport.
