Spring brush and leaf collection continues
Sturgis Department of Public Services will begin its May brush collection.
Pickup begins on the north side of the city and proceeds southward.
Weather conditions and varying amounts of brush make it difficult to adhere to a specific schedule. Officials suggest having material on the property terrace, ready for gathering. Do not place brush or leaves beyond the curb in the street, the city said.
Updates regarding crew progress are available routinely at www.facebook.com/sturgismi and www.sturgismi.gov.
DPS will conduct another round of collection beginning in early October.
Carmichael named to city boards
At the April 24 meeting of Sturgis City Commission, John Carmichael was appointed to three boards: Economic Development Corporation, Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and Local Development Finance Authority.
Each position was left vacant following the resignation of Eric Eishen.
The vacancies were advertised, and members of the boards actively sought a qualified candidate, according to the city
Carmichael’s experience with economic development and related matters is considered a good fit.
Separately, Lee Austermann resigned from three city positions: zoning board of appeals, sister city committee and cemetery board, due to health reasons. Austermann previously served on Sturgis City Commission.
