BURR OAK TWP. — A Sturgis man was killed in a car crash that occurred late Friday in Burr Oak Township.
According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called at 11:42 p.m. Dec. 27 to the area of M-66 near Blackberry Lane due to an iPhone crash detection report. Police found a single vehicle that had struck a tree once they got on scene.
The lone occupant, a 34-year-old man from Sturgis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the crash was not released, but deputies believe alcohol may have been a factor.
Deputies were assisted on scene by Lifecare Ambulance, Burr Oak Fire Dept., and Sturgis Towing.
