American Legion honors Gene Carr

As Monday’s March 7, weather saw temperatures in the low 30s and periods of rain and snow, it didn’t hamper the Lawrence American Legion Hess-Eastman Post 174 as they fired off volleys at Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, Monday afternoon during a funeral service for legion member, Gene Carr. The legion’s last World War II veteran, Carr, 97, passed away March 2. He served in the Army as part of the 2nd Armored Division “Hell on Wheels,” driving a tank in Europe.
