GFL abandons bid for transfer station at Hayes Township location

By  Genine Hopkins

After a rather tense April regular board meeting in which GFL informed the Hayes Township Board of Trustees that they were potentially looking to expand operations adjacent to the current location in the Hayes Township Industrial Park area for a Transfer Station, GLF has pulled their bid for that location at this time.
Readers may recall the April Hayes Township Board meeting which had to relocate to the basketball court inside to accommodate the residents who expressed concern over the potential transfer station. The majority of the citizens in attendance were not happy about any expansion. While there were some tax benefits to the township, most residents were not willing to have any potential environmental issues in exchange, although the company would have to seek  and receive EGLE approval regarding environmental impacts.
When contacted, GFL’s Rick Fancon, who had been present at the April meeting, said the company had received other offers that were being considered and might be a better fit.
