Juvenile stabbed, choked by driver while in vehicle

On Monday, November 25, 2024 at 6:43 p.m., the Clare County Central Dispatch received several emergency call’s reporting a 17 year old juvenile male had been stabbed. Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff Office responded to the 200 block of W Washington Rd where they met with the juvenile. Upon meeting with the victim, Deputies determined the victim was riding in a vehicle with an 18 year old Farwell man, Randolph Schaub who was driving the vehicle, as well as a juvenile female. While in the area of Maple Rd and Beaver, in the township of Grant, county of Clare, Schaub and the victim began to argue, which led to Schaub assaulting the victim by punching him multiple times before strangling him.
During this assault, which was taking place inside the vehicle, Schaub retrieved a knife from the front area of the vehicle, and used the knife to stab the victim. The victim was able to exit the vehicle and flee the area where he later called for help. The juvenile victim was treated at the Clare ER for his injuries and released early the following morning.
Schaub along with the juvenile female were located by the Deputies a short time after the incident was reported in the parking lot of the Farwell High School. The juvenile female was uninjured, but had been confined to the vehicle by Schaub. Schaub was taken into custody by the Clare County Sheriff Office. He was treated for minor injuries and lodged in the Clare County Jail on the charges of Assault with the intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and unlawful imprisonment. Schaub was arraigned on these charges in the 80th District Court on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. His bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety.
The Clare County Sheriff Office was assisted by the Surrey Township Fire and Rescue Department, and the Mobile Medical Response Ambulance Service. This incident was an isolated incident, and there was no danger to the public.
