McBain NMC blanks Brethren, wins Comet Cup

MCBAIN – Northern Michigan Christian’s soccer team on Monday beat Brethren 8-0
Jada VanNoord had five goals and assist.
Kylee Winkle had two goals and three assists.
Sofia Hernandez had one goal and one assist. Lydia Sprague had two assists.
Harper Tossey was in goal with two saves.
“It was a fun game for our team to generate some great goals. I am very proud of our team’s pace and effort,” coach Jeni VanNoord said.
NMC’s record is 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the NMSL.
Northern Michigan Christian won the Comet Cup on Saturday with wins of 4-1 over Lakeview and 2-1 over Hart.
Jada VanNoord had two goals vs Lakeview and one goal and an assist against Hart. Kylee Winkle scored 1 goal in each game. Melanie Bennett scored goal goal and had two assists in the Lakeview game

We have a very small roster with several girls battling injuries and to play two games in a day was tough,” VanNoord said. “But this team never quit and never stopped fighting for the win. I am so proud of my two seniors, Jada and Ky, for leading the fight and getting the goals today…we would not have won without their leadership.”

NMCS beat Clare 4-1 on April 11
Kylee Winkle scored off a Jada VanNoord corner kick in the first 41 seconds of the game; Clare scored four minutes later. Jada VanNoodscored unassisted at 25 minutes. Melanie Bennett scored with an assist to Jada one min after that.
NMC was up 3-1 at half. Jada scored a penalty in the final minute of the game/
Harper Tossey in goal had seven saves
“Cold wet turf is a very difficult surface to control the ball on but I thought we made some really great attacking runs and scored some beautiful goals. Clare was fast and I’m very proud of the way our defense battled hard and shut down many quick attacks,” VanNord said.
