Obituary: Leonard D. Lohrke III

Leonard D. Lohrke III, 80, of Homer, passed away on March 25, 2024 at the Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center in Spring Arbor, MI. He was born on September 25, 1943 to Leonard D. Jr. and Hope (Newton) Lohrke in Albion, MI. Leonard graduated from Albion High School in 1962. He married Elaine Nancy Patton on October 26, 1963 in Albion at the First Methodist Church.

After graduating from high school, Leonard became a Tool & Die Maker at Albion Machine and Tool and he also worked for Union Steel for 10 years. He worked for 33 years retiring in 2005 due to his health. Leonard served as a fire fighter with Sheridan and Albion Township Fire Department for 44 years until 2012. He completed numerous fire trainings. He enjoyed his ’65 Thunderbird and ’54 Chevy Pickup, which he restored for his wife, Elaine. Leonard did all the work on them.

Leonard is survived by his loving spouse, Elaine; children, Lance (Laura) Lohrke of Albion, Nancy (John) Yirku of Albion; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Estella Roberts and brother-in-law, John (Judy) Patton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lee Roy “Joe” Lohrke and sister, Kathleen Benden.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, 11:00 am at Kempf’s of Homer, 303 S. Hillsdale St., Homer, Michigan with Pastor Tamar Eisemann officiating.

Leonard’s cremated remains will be buried in Riverside Cemetery in Albion, MI.

Memorials are suggested to the Sheridan or Albion Township Fire Department.
