Twelve ducklings rescued from storm drain

Neighbors in the vicinity of Indiana Ave. and Cable Ave. in South Haven were alarmed by the actions of an adult female duck who was making quite a fuss next to a storm water drain on Thursday afternoon.
Upon investigation they saw TWELVE ducklings cowering on the top of the drainage pipe several feet underground.
A call to 911 brought SHAES, led by Chief Brandon Hinz, to the scene.
The grate was lifted and Chief Hinz went to the rescue, gingerly bringing the ducklings, one by one, to safety.
Mama duck was no where to be found at that point so the ducklings were placed in a box and turned over to the grateful humans to await a possible reunion.
Everything is just ducky on the city’s southside.
